ABOUT TANZANIA:
As an economy with 6.5% average growth over the past decade, Tanzania has truly been one of the success stories of the continent. With a GDP of USD 32.01 billion in 2010 to USD 62.41 billion in 2020, the country’s proven economic growth has almost doubled the country’s output, and is expected to continue doing so despite COVID-19. Tanzania presents itself as an attractive destination to extract gold, and to explore offshore oil and gas reserves.

Economic Overview: largely market-based economy with a focus on natural resources and tourism driving exports, though the government still maintains ownership of land and major utilities such as telecommunication, energy and banking; growing focus on repairing the country’s ageing infrastructure with international aid. Tanzania is growing its import links to Asia, with China, India and Vietnam and well as the United Arab Emirates showing growth.
Access & Logistics: Tanzania is allocated on the east coast of Africa and includes a number of island territories. Tanzania is bordered by Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique. Tanzania also shares territory in Lake Victoria and Lake Tanganyika and shares a border with Lake Malawi. Sea freight is important for external trade with major sea ports located in Dar es Salaam. The airfield infrastructure in Tanzania is composed of three international airports located in Dar es Salaam (DAR), Kilimanjaro (JRO) and Stone Town (ZNZ). Road transport is the most widely used form of transport in Tanzania carrying over 90% of the passengers and 75% of the freight traffic in the country. In the southern part of the country, TAZARA is operating a network linking Dar es Salaam to South Africa. The rail network operated by Tanzania Railways limited (TRL) links Dar es Salaam to Kigoma, the western border, as well as Uganda and other countries located in the north of Tanzania. Overall Tanzania is well connected and has a relatively good network for exports.
